The Electrician ensures all electrical components are operating safely and efficiently to support ongoing marine or offshore operations. This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety and maritime regulations.
Barge Electrician Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment including switchboards, motors, control panels, transformers, lighting systems, and generators.
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.
- Install and test new electrical systems or upgrades according to engineering specifications and industry standards.
- Monitor the integrity of power distribution systems and emergency power systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, test records, and compliance documentation.
- Work closely with the barge crew, engineers, and mechanics to coordinate repair schedules and minimize operational disruptions.
- Respond promptly to electrical system faults or alarms during operations.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards, company procedures, and maritime regulations (USCG, ABS, etc.).
- Assist with inspections by regulatory bodies and support compliance with environmental and safety protocols.
- Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, and required training sessions.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in Electrical Technology, Marine Electrical Systems, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Marine or Industrial Electrician, preferably in a barge or offshore environment.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC systems, motor controls, power generation, and distribution.
- Experience with PLCs, HMI panels, and other automation/control systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with marine classification standards (ABS, DNV) and maritime electrical codes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Must be physically capable of working in marine environments (climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Willingness to work a rotational offshore schedule (e.g., 14/14, 21/21).
- Valid TWIC card, HUET certification, and other offshore-related safety training preferred.
