This role involves leading design projects, overseeing technical teams, and ensuring the creation of safe, efficient, and innovative marine vessels and structures.
Naval Architect Responsibilities
- Lead the design, analysis, and development of marine vessels, offshore platforms, and other marine structures.
- Conduct structural, hydrodynamic, and stability analyses to ensure safety, performance, and compliance with marine classification societies (ABS, CFR, DNV, LR).
- Develop and refine ship designs, including hull forms, structural components, and propulsion systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, ensuring high-quality project execution.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and presentations for clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
- Perform strength, fatigue, and load analysis to validate design concepts and ensure industry compliance.
- Work closely with project managers, shipyards, and stakeholders to meet project timelines and budgets.
- Review and assess design drawings, technical reports, and construction plans for accuracy and feasibility.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in naval architecture, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Assist with project proposals, tender documents, and bid evaluations, providing technical expertise and cost estimates.
- Incorporate sustainable and energy-efficient solutions into vessel designs.
- Provide technical oversight during vessel construction, testing, and sea trials.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of professional experience in naval architecture or marine engineering.
- Strong expertise in ship design, stability analysis, and structural engineering.
- Proficiency in design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar.
- Extensive knowledge of marine classification society rules and international maritime regulations (ABS, CFR, DNV, LR).
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to innovate and adapt to changing requirements.
- Strong communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Proven experience in overseeing designs from concept to delivery, including construction and sea trials.
- Willingness to travel to client sites for inspections, tests, and project-related tasks.
- Experience with FRP (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) design and construction.
- Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Knowledge of marine propulsion systems, energy efficiency, and alternative fuels.
- Experience working with commercial vessels, pleasure craft, and yachts.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives in the marine industry.
