Job Summary
Under general direction, the painter's duties and responsibilities require independent judgment and initiative based on considerable knowledge of the trade to complete the building maintenance inspection and fire-stopping as scheduled and as needed and perform the preparation/repair, painting and covering of building & grounds surfaces, fixtures, signs and equipment in a safe, efficient and in a cost-efficient manner. Typical duties preformed are as follows: Determine surface conditions and customer usage and decide on correct surface preparations and coating type. Prepare surfaces to be coated by use of abraters, cleaners, spackling, plaster, sizing, etc. Mix and match paints and stains. Perform work in high places, using ladders, scaffolding, etc., as required. Maintain equipment, brushes and other applicators and make minor repairs.
Essential Functions
Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices if the painting trade.
Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to estimate time and materials needed along with completion of necessary paperwork.
Skilled in preparing of building & grounds surfaces by insuring compliance with manufacturers specifications for service preparation including use of spackling/plastering to ensure professional finish of applied paint, stain, varnish, wall covering, etc.
Skilled in mixing paint, stain, varnish, etc., and applying said items with tools and equipment used in the trade.
Ability to work any shifts as required to meet the needs of our customers.
Range of Pay
Pay starting at $21.70 per hour.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent
5 years of relevant experience 5 years documented work experience as a painter/plaster in a commercial, industrial or institutional.
