In support of this goal, we are looking for a Full Time Eye Recovery Technician that will report to our South San Francisco office.
What does a Full Time Eye Recovery Technician do?
The Eye Recovery Technician plays a vital role in ensuring that the gift of donation is honored through the timely and thoughtful procurement of ocular tissues for corneal transplant. Essential duties and responsibilities are noted below. This position requires the employee to report to the South San Francisco office at the start of each shift, as recovery dispatches will be from there to various medical facilities in the area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs efficient and quality surgical recovery of human eye tissue for transplant and/or medical research, and/or education.
Maintains confidentiality of donor related information.
Draws a serologic (blood) sample from the donor or collects a previously drawn sample from a hospital blood bank. Serologic testing facilitates eligibility determination of transplant.
Performs a thorough physical assessment of the donor, often lifting or pushing, to observe both the anterior and posterior of the donor’s body.
Maintains accurate real-time documentation of surgical recovery procedures in an electronic donor database system.
When necessary, works with medical review team to collect complete and accurate medical charts, behavioral data, laboratory data and other pertinent data from the recovery site and other appropriate agencies.
Ability to package specimens for transport based on standard operating procedures.
Transports specimens directly to a CorneaGen laboratory for tissue evaluation and donor eligibility.
Accepts ancillary responsibilities, such as responding to phone calls, emails, or other methods of communication to facilitate donation.
When not actively on a donor recovery, the Eye Recovery Technician will assist with office duties to include, but may not be limited to:
Performing final packaging, box assembly, and/or final labelling of Long Term Tissue (LTT).
Perform quality control audits for LTT products.
Maintain accurate and real-time documentation of LTT functions in the electronic database system.
Support the LTT department with implementation of routine preventative maintenance/annual certification of equipment and/or troubleshooting activities.
Maintain Eye Recovery supply inventory for the California region.
Receive, review, and rotate supplies related to recovery functions.
Work with per diem eye recovery staff members to determine monthly supply needs to ensure consistent recoveries across the region. This will include maintaining individual inventory spreadsheets, boxing of necessary supplies and shipping to individual Eye Recovery Technicians.
Other duties assigned by CorneaGen management.
What else should I know about this position?
This is an hourly, onsite position with daily travel. This full-time role is scheduled for 5 days, 40 hours per week.

Not a problem! We will provide on-the-job training to give you the skills and knowledge needed to become an Eye Recovery Technician! What we ask of you is:
Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and highly relevant experience required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all Eye Bank staff.
A personal commitment to eye donation.
Ability to work well individually without direct supervision.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in compliance through standard operating procedures.
Able to work under pressure and time constraints.
Must have reliable, dependable transportation and be eligible to meet our company driving standards.
May be needed to work beyond scheduled hours, nights, weekends, and/or holidays to effectively service the recovery area.
What compensation and benefits do you offer?The Eye Recovery Technician position is full-time with a $28.00 hourly wage.
