Position Summary: The Career Assistant Student Manager is responsible for continuing to assist the professional staff at the Berry Career Institute in carrying out their duties, such as career center projects throughout the year (including event planning, marketing, gathering and analyzing data), researching student outcomes, and other potential projects. The Berry Career Institute is essential to the lifelong success of students of Cornell College and the Career Assistant Student Manager is key in motivating, organizing, and working with Career Assistants (CAs) to carry out this mission. The CA Student Manager, along with the CAs, will spend their days interacting with students, alumni, recruiters, faculty, staff, and the general public with career-related issues. The CA Student Manager will receive training in general CA duties as well as further training in career-based knowledge, valuable workplace and management skills, and other aspects of the BCI office. The CA Student Manager will be expected to carry out their duties in a professional and courteous manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Continue to perform all the duties of a Career Assistant
- Ensure that all Career Assistants are providing effective, timely, and courteous customer service by supervising and shadowing resume reviews as needed and providing immediate feedback that is documented and shared with the Associate Director of Operations
- Provide regular feedback, ongoing training, and motivation to Career Assistants
- Work with Associate Director of Operations to plan and lead Professional Development (Pro Devo) sessions once per block
- Schedule Career Assistants each block
- Work with and train Career Assistants to plan, schedule, and present on relevant career topics to student groups on campus
- Conduct spring employee recruitment campaigns, including outreach and marketing
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training new Career Assistants and Career Assistant Student Managers
- Solve problems by coming up with and implementing solutions or by escalating the issue to a professional staff member
- Seek to continuously improve training and identify gaps in training and skills with the Associate Director of Operations
Minimum qualifications:
- Federal work study eligibility required
- Current employee with no less than one academic year experience in the office
- Minimum commitment of one year to this position
- Willingness to commit at least 5 hours per week, and to work additional hours during peak periods of the school year
- Strong initiative and internal motivation
- Professional demeanor as befitting a representative of the Berry Career Institute
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Berry Career Institute mission.
Term:
The Student Manager will be expected to commit to a term of one school year, which is August through May. Though we understand there may be a need for schedule changes throughout the year, we expect the Student Manager to commit to at least 144 hours, which breaks down as generally 5 hours (3 shifts) per week.
