IS THIS POSITION FOR YOU?

As a BSA/Member Relations Assistant, you will perform daily processes and tasks to ensure compliance with FinCEN and BSA guidelines. This includes filing CTRs, filing SARs, processing FinCEN watchlist and 314a lists, processing alerts and cases, and managing workflows. In addition to primary functions, this role will work with the Member Relations Manager to support and maintain all documents and records regarding Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), certificates, and deceased accounts. Guides frontline staff on processing IRAs, Certificates, and Estate & Trust accounts, along with the approval of Power of Attorney requests for depository transactions. Assists the Branch Operations Manager with depository compliance and assists with special projects. Processes deceased accounts and instructs employees on required documents and closing of accounts.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Requires an understanding or ability to learn Abrigo, LexisNexis Bridger, Symitar, Meridian, OnBase, and Ascensus for IRAs.
  2. Utilizes Abrigo daily to ensure proper uploads of critical data are processed and analyzed properly.
  3. Reviews cases, alerts, and discrepancies to ensure each is resolved, filed, an/or resolved within Abrigo, and LexisNexis to meet BSA and FinCEN regulatory compliance.
  4. Works to ensure CTRs are filed and maintained in accordance with FinCEN guidelines.
  5. Process and File SARs as approved by the SAR Committee.
  6. Display the ability to work well with others and various departments as needed.
  7. Provide weekly and monthly reports regarding BSA and FinCEN components as needed.
  8. Review reporting and program findings for structuring, kiting, and account misuse.
  9. Remains up to date on new regulations and expectations by adhering to training and continuing education requirements.
  10. Works with the BSA Compliance Officer /VP of Branch Operations, Member Relations Manager, and Training Manager on training and compliance recommendations for compliance, certificates, IRAs, and deceased accounts.
  11. Maintains and updates IRA forms and manuals, as well as provides information to credit union staff with regard to tax law revisions.
  12. Works with Member Relations Manager to process and maintain IRA periodic payments.
  13. Provides support to branches regarding complex member inquiries and IRA processing in Symitar and Ascensus IRA Direct.
  14. Works with Member Relations Manager on legal documents to determine the distribution of funds on IRAs and deceased accounts.
  15. Compiles and reports to Ascensus distributions and contributions for IRS tax forms.
  16. Organizes and files reports from CUNA Mutual.
  17. Audits IRA and certificate accounts.
  18. Communicates with Member Resolutions on credit card accounts, loans, title releases, mortgage deeds, and other issues with deceased accounts.
  19. Guides family and/or beneficiaries of deceased members on documents needed to close the accounts.
  20. Works with Training Manager to maintain and help develop the procedures manual on IRAs, certificates, and deceased accounts.
  21. Assists with the review and approval of Power of Attorney (POA), for depository transactions from the branches.
  22. Provides support to branches regarding Trust and Estate requests for account opening.
  23. Maintains knowledge of credit union products and services.
  24. Understands and adheres to all policies and procedures.
  25. Maintains member information in confidence.
  26. Performs other duties as requested.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education

Minimum of a high school diploma. Some post-high school training is preferred.


Experience

Two years of financial or insurance services background is preferred. Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications are also required.


Physical, Mental, and Visual Requirements

The essential functions of this position are generally performed while seated at a desk. Extensive telephone work requires excellent audio and verbal communication skills. Work involves using a computer which requires visual ability and manual dexterity. Much of the contact with members is of a delicate and/or volatile nature. The emotional stability to deal with periods of high stress is essential.



PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be professional, courteous, and efficient with a high degree of integrity. Must possess good detail and organization skills with a high degree of accuracy. Work is performed with minimal supervision; therefore, good independent judgment is very important. Must be able to function as a team player and cooperate with co-workers, members, and business associates.
