Position Overview
Cornerstone Learning Community is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Studies Lead Teacher to inspire student learning through engaging, inquiry-based instruction. This educator will play a key role in delivering the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum, fostering critical thinking, and encouraging global awareness. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic classroom environment, collaborate with colleagues, and support students in developing a deeper understanding of history, geography, and cultural perspectives.
Key Responsibilities

The Middle Social Studies Lead Teacher will oversee and facilitate a range of projects and initiatives, including but not limited to:
- Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based Social Studies lessons aligned with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
- Foster critical thinking, discussion, and reflection on historical events, geography, culture, and global issues.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, communication, and engagement with multiple perspectives.
- Utilize project-based learning and hands-on activities to deepen students' understanding of social studies concepts.
- Develop and implement formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and progress.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs, ensuring all students can succeed.
- Work closely with colleagues to align curriculum, integrate cross-disciplinary themes, and ensure cohesive instruction.
- Participate in school-wide activities, professional development sessions, and ongoing MYP training to enhance teaching practices.
- Encourage discussions on ethical issues, global concerns, and historical perspectives to foster social responsibility.
- Maintain a well-managed, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and growth.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating field trips, school events, and extracurricular activities to provide enriching learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, History, Geography, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years experience in teaching Middle School Social Studies.
- Valid teaching certification in Social Studies (MYP certification preferred but not required).
- Experience teaching Social Studies at the middle school level, with familiarity with the IB MYP curriculum.
- Strong ability to facilitate student inquiry and encourage active participation in discussions.
- Proficient in using technology to enhance instruction and support learning.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to design assessments that promote deeper understanding and reflection.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Repetitive bending, stretching, walking and stooping.
- Have mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
- Work with children on the floor.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather.
- Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow constant supervision of children.
