What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Support Specialist position at Cornerstone Services Inc.?
General Functions: The Recovery Support Specialist provides community support team (CST) mental health services in order to decrease crisis episodes and increase community functioning, assisting persons served to achieve their recovery goals. The Recovery Support Specialist utilizes his/her own experiences with recovery to support and motivate persons served in their recovery process.
Specific Functions:
- Deliver and document facility and community-based mental health services to meet the needs of persons served with mental health and substance use issues, as indicated by individual treatment and recovery plans. Services may include:
- Community Support
- Crisis Intervention
- Case Management
- Psychotropic Medication Training
- Record the process and results of services in sufficient detail to meet Medicaid Rule 140, Illinois DMH Rule 132, insurance billing requirements, and to meet or exceed assigned MRO weekly billing quotas as determined by the Director of Behavioral Health.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure that at least one team member is available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
- Maintain awareness of consumers' physical and mental health, assuring that each consumer receives prompt medical treatment as needed from community providers within the bounds of available resources.
- Communicate on a regular basis with treatment team members to assure consistency in treatment and facilitation of the Individual Treatment and Recovery Plan.
- Participate in mandatory weekly CST meetings with the Manager of Community Support Team and seek ongoing clinical supervision from supervisors.
- Participate in all agency and department trainings, committees, monthly department meetings, and any additionally recommended trainings or meetings as required by supervisor(s).
- Assist with moves of new and existing consumers in the Community Housing program.
- Be on-call via phone for crisis services in accordance with the Behavioral Health Department's Crisis Line schedule and crisis line procedures.
- Obtain and maintain CRSS certification, as well as any other agency-required certifications (i.e. CPR/FA, etc.)
- Facilitate evidence-based peer recovery support services for department consumers, including by not limited to WRAP and WHAM, as well as other peer recovery support groups.
- Serve as a peer recovery outreach specialist, as needed, to connect individuals to needed homeless services and mental health/substance use services.
- Operate agency or personal vehicle in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Respond per established procedures to all emergency situations including medical, behavioral, fire, severe weather and other hazards.
- Additional related duties as assigned by the Manager of Community Support Team, Associate Director of Behavioral Health, or Director of Behavioral Health.
- Maintain ongoing compliance with all agency-related training and certification requirements.

- Own, maintain, and use personal smartphone for company business in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must be a current or past recipient of mental health services who is in advanced stages of recovery and be willing to share personal recovery experience to support persons served. Must be at least 21 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) or be able to obtain the CRSS credential within one (1) year of employment. Must be willing to work evening/weekend hours as necessary. Proficiency in the use of computers and typing, and working knowledge of MS Word and MS Outlook applications required.Minimum of one (1) year experience working with individuals with psychiatric disorders and working knowledge of recovery strongly preferred. Experience with Medicaid Rule 132 documentation and billing preferred. Driving record and auto insurance coverage in compliance with agency policy. A post offer physical and criminal background check required. Reliable transportation required. EOE.
