Position Summary:
The Lead Mechanic is responsible for accurately and efficiently repairing trucks, trailers and other vehicles as needed. The Lead Mechanic is also responsible for supervising, teaching and mentoring other mechanics and shop staff. All employees of Cornhusker Truck Center are responsible for providing an excellent customer service experience.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise and positively influence mechanics and shop staff at Cornhusker Truck Center.
- Ensure shop employees are trained and can successfully do their daily responsibilities.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on vehicles.
- Inspect various parts of vehicles and trailers to include brake systems, steering mechanisms and all other vehicle systems to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate safely and effectively.
- Utilize tooling and equipment, such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, hoists and jacks, to repair vehicles and trailers while constantly exercising safety precautions.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions by conducting inspections, utilizing computerized diagnostic devices and familiarity with manufactures specifications and tolerances.
- Test drive vehicles to diagnose problems and verify repairs.
- Conduct repairs that follow the guidance of formalized trade training, product repair/maintenance guidelines and shop diagnostic/repair manuals.
- Ensure vehicle parts conform to factory specifications and safety regulations by inspecting, measuring and verifying clearances and dimensions.
- Accurately document repairs performed, supplies/parts used during repair and observations/recommendations discovered while completing the repair.
- Provide excellent customer service to every customer who visits Cornhusker Truck Center.
- Must have own hand tools.
- Keep the shop area picked up, clean, and safe.
- Check tractor/trailers on the lot for obvious maintenance concerns for customers.
- All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Three to five years of experience working as a mechanic in a diesel repair facility or other equivalent experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- Technical certification or degree, preferred.
- Experience working with diagnostic computers, preferred.
