Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead a team of four (4) front line supervisors and approximately one hundred and Twenty (120) front line employees.

Establish organizational design and staffing consisting of high performing work teams which maximize production output. Ensure new processes and equipment maximize effectiveness of high performing work teams. Direct responsibility for process and personnel development as well as meeting and exceeding production standards. Direct and indirect responsibility for development and introduction of new products and improved equipment.

Major Responsibilities

Ongoing Tasks:

  • Develop a Safety Culture that seeks injury elimination.
  • Ensure safe working environment for all personnel. All equipment and processes must comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Directly or indirectly supervises all personnel engaged in the production of optical waveguides. Coordinates resources to meet output, select, and utilization goals.
  • Coordinates scheduling of all experimentation, preventive maintenance, and related production equipment downtime.
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding quality specifications of optical waveguides, and for adhering to all quality SPC requirements.
  • Ensures that the disciplinary process is administered fairly to all employees across all shifts.
  • Responsible for S.O.P., S.O.S., adherence, and maintenance of PIMs procedures and documentation.
  • Analyzes long-term and weekly production requirements vs. capabilities.
  • Assists planning in determining schedule.
  • Determines personnel level and maintains equal staffing on all shifts.
  • Assist in preparing operation budget and forecast.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and clean room program maintenance.
  • Leads employee involvement teams related to training, documentation, and safety at the section level.
  • Routine participation in department wareflow discussions/decisions to maximize throughput and minimize ware in process.
  • Provide vacation coverage for the Department Supervisor and perform the routine duties associated with that job as required.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to direct and motivate all associates in the department.

Project Tasks

  • Provide operational inputs for equipment/process design.
  • Ensure new processes and equipment meet all production requirements.
  • Identify and ensure safety compliance during project design, construction, and implementation phases.
  • Implement appropriate procedures for daily production control.
  • Coordinate training and certification of new personnel and re-training and certification of existing personnel to meet department standards.
  • Identify and implement programs to improve section performance and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Support new process/product development to meet market needs.

Travel Requirements: Infrequent US travel (<5%)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday Day Shift, Schedule can vary as a function of business needs

Required Skills

4 years of experience in Manufacturing Operations or Engineering.

2 years minimum experience in leadership

Desired Skills

  • Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration) B.S. (ME, EE, ChE degree preferred)
  • Ability to comply with key select, utilization, output, spending, and other quality measures.
  • Attitude, professionalism, and cooperation of production department.
  • Demonstrate production adaptability and flexibility to market changes in product mix and new process development.
  • The ability to initiate and implement improvements to the section’s performance operations, training, documentation, or safety.
  • The ability to work as a constructive, contributing member of a multi-functional, task-oriented team.
  • The demonstration of supportive actions in association with plant-wide and departmental initiatives such as EEO, managing diversity, the partnership efforts, safety committees, and Total Quality.

The range for this position is $96,727.00 - $133,000.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
