CORNISH+ UKULELE KIDS TEACHING ARTIST (AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS)

We are seeking a passionate and creative Ukulele Instructor to lead an engaging after-school program for children in grades 35, K-2 or both. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music, experience working with children, and a talent for teaching ukulele basics and music theory in a fun, interactive way. Your role will be to inspire young musicians and foster their love for music while developing foundational skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This position is a part of the Cornish In the Schools program and the candidate will be expected to teach off campus, onsite at schools or organizations around the Seattle area. Depending on the instructors schedule, this position could potentially be teaching one to three courses a week.

While this position is beginning this winter, we are searching for multiple music teaching artists to join our pool of instructors to expand our Cornish In the Schools program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver weekly ukulele lessons, incorporating music theory, technique, and performance skills.
  • Create a positive, encouraging, and fun learning atmosphere for children of varying skill levels.
  • Develop lesson plans that balance technical skill-building with creative and interactive activities, such as group strumming, singing, and rhythm games.
  • Teach students how to read chord charts, follow rhythms, and play basic melodies.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration through group performances and activities.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Communicate with parents and program coordinators as needed to provide updates on the class schedule and students progress.

Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing the ukulele and a solid understanding of music theory.
  • Verifiable previous experience teaching music to children or leading kids programs.
  • Demonstrable and effective communication and classroom management skills.
  • Proven ability to create an engaging and age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Demonstrated patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with young learners.
  • Availability during after-school hours (specific schedule to be determined).
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Degree or certification in music education, performance, or a related field.
  • Experience organizing group recitals or performances.
  • Job Type : Part-Time schedule : hours ranging from 2 : 30 pm to 5 : 30 pm during the week.

    Compensation : $1,050 to $3,150, depending on the number of sectionals; calculated at $105.00 / hour.

    Location : Must be available for in-person sessions at the colleges Seattle-area campus or partnering community spaces.
