Job Description

The Senior Materials / Supply Chain Manager plans and directs all supply chain activities, including scheduling, purchasing, warehouse operations, service parts operations, BOM administration, and the delivery of materials to the manufacturing team to meet daily attainment of completed units for sales. This position is responsible for all strategies and processes relating to both internal and external supply chain activities.

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing inventory levels and accuracy, executing the department's strategic plan, developing team members, implementing process improvements, driving cost-reduction initiatives, and leveraging data analysis to extract and interpret insights from the ERP system, which supports informed decision-making and ensures sound business practices.

Key Responsibilities :

Materials Managment

  • Develop and implement materials management strategies to ensure optimal inventory levels and availability for production, while minimizing inventory holding costs and expedited transportation charges.
  • Oversee the procurement, storage, and movement of raw materials and components to meet production schedules.
  • Establish inventory control processes to minimize waste, reduce costs, and prevent stockouts or overstocking.
  • Ensure accurate material tracking and reporting through ERP system and BI reports.
  • Direct all activities relating to cycle count scheduling and annual physical inventory, including preparation, scheduling, execution, and physical audit.
  • Hands-on approach and actively engaged with teams and department leadership.
  • Lead the investigation of all inventory variances and material shortages and provide corrective actions to future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to address material-related issues, defective material returns (DMR) and maintain standards

Supply Chain Management :

  • Design and implement supply chain strategies to support business goals, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Manage supplier relationships, including selection, negotiation, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee logistics, including inbound and outbound material transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to address disruptions.
  • Drive improvements in supply chain visibility, data analytics, and reporting.
  • Ensures supply chain and material forecasts align with the master production schedules.
  • Collaborate with the product development team on new product releases and provide feedback on impacts to the supply chain.
  • Work with the product development team and quality to evaluate and qualify potential new suppliers.
  • Network closely with internal groups and departments, including shipping, sales, engineering, quality, operations, and customer service, to ensure that the supply chain is aligned with each department's needs.
  • Review and compile monthly reporting on all departmental metrics.
  • Investigate and implement applicable technologies to improve efficiency within the supply chain.
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning :

  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and leadership to supervisors / leads / employees to ensure department alignment with operational strategies and culture.
  • Maintain and promote a safe work environment by ensuring employees follow safety protocols consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align materials and supply chain strategies with business objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to streamline processes, enhance collaboration, and support company growth.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Mentor and develop supply chain and materials team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Skills :

  • Departmental budget management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials management, inventory control, work order management, procurement, and logistics.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
  • Able to plan, direct, and delegate work to others, assess performance, provide disciplinary action, if necessary.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and supply chain performance metrics.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to quickly prioritize frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Lean manufacturing experience, especially in continuous improvement, elimination of waste, 5S, and visual management.
  • Advanced Excel skills with a minimum of 4 years hands-on experience.
  • Able to present data and information in a meeting environment.
  • Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR) and ability to travel.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred
  • Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred
  • 10 years of progressive experience in materials management and supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment, with at least 4 years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Strong experience with ERP / MRP systems, such as Epicor, SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Proven track record of implementing supply chain optimization strategies and driving measurable improvements.
  • Experience in managing complex supplier networks and global supply chains.
  • Preferred Qualifications :
  • Certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS CPIM, CSCP, CPSM, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
