Nurse Practitioner

Correctional Medical Management is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Minnehaha County Jail. The Nurse Practitioner will provide top quality primary care and medical management to incarcerated patients.

Responsibilities

• Plan direct and evaluate patient care in ambulatory health services
• Examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents and other injuries/illnesses
• Performs and documents patient evaluations, including taking the patient’s history and conducting a physical examination
• Orders and interprets diagnostic tests
• Writes orders for medical medications and treatments, under guidelines of licensure
• May perform invasive procedures as necessary
• Recommend referrals to specialized care providers
• Dictates discharge summaries and transfer orders
• Communicates with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care
• Maintains and follows patient care protocols
• Works with members of the healthcare team in educating the patients of their medical care
• Continually updates clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education and review of literature for the benefit of themselves as well as for the healthcare team
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and adherence to best practices
• Assist in developing policies, protocols, standards and guidelines
• All other duties as assigned

• Completes required orientation as directed by facility
• Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
• Upholds HIPAA regulations
• Respects cultural and religious practices of patients
• Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
• Stay up to date on the latest medical advances and incorporate best practices into your work

Position Requirements

• Must possess a Master’s Degree and must have current and valid Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse license with at least one-year experience of providing direct patient care
• Must have prescriptive authority
• Previous experience in a correctional setting preferred
• CPR certification
