We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented staff accountant/bookkeeper to join our small on-site accounting team. As a Staff Accountant at Corson, Peterson & Hamann, S.C., you will play a crucial role in supporting the financial and tax-related activities of our clients. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow professionally while working on a variety of accounting tasks, including financial statement preparation, tax filings, and general ledger maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions and ensuring the smooth operation of our accounting functions. Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Monitor and manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Document Preparation: Assist in the preparation of tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities. Perform monthly and quarterly closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations. Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections. Prepare and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings as required.
- Data Entry: Enter financial data into accounting software and verify the accuracy of information.
- Filing and Record Keeping: Maintain organized and up-to-date files and records electronically.
- Research: Conduct basic tax research to support the tax team in addressing client inquiries and resolving issues.
Qualifications
- Accounting degree or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and a commitment to client service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Familiarity with Thomson Reuters accounting products is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
