Position Summary
The Real Estate Accountant has the overall responsibility of processing transactions, analyzing significant business processes, and reporting the results related to all aspects of Real Estate Accounting for the company, including the accounting for leases. This role performs accounting and payment processing for US and Canada purchase and sales contracts, and global lease contracts, including payments for lease and common area maintenance activity. The REA Accountant will also consult with all domestic and international subsidiaries regarding the accounting for leases under U.S. GAAP.
This position may be eligible for rotation opportunities within the Accounting division.

Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Makes an impact by supporting the vision and mission of the Company through analytical insights and efficient accounting/reporting processes.
- Manages the period-end close process by ensuring the accurate and timely completion of all real estate accounting entries and reconciliations.
- Manages key property life cycle events such as review and proper recording of purchase and sale contracts, and pre-opening and closedown processes.
- Manages key lease life cycle events such as extensions, amendments, and terminations, through lease accounting software.
- Performs analytical review of real estate related balances and provides balance sheet account movements to support cash flow reporting.
- Prepares the property and lease disclosures used in the preparation of the Company’s SEC filings.
- Monitors and updates the Company’s significant accounting policies to ensure compliance.
- Performs ad hoc analysis and reporting (e.g. what-if scenarios, expense forecasts) to provide insights and support to stakeholders.
- Seeks to continuously learn and make things better by collaborating with industry peers and internal business partners to evaluate how others are addressing current topics and trends, and implements best practices.
- Develops productive working relationships and collaborates with business partners and stakeholders such as Legal, Real Estate, Property Management, Financial Reporting, Treasury, International Accounting teams, and Internal and External Auditors by providing support and maintaining effective communication.
- Drives efficiencies through automation and optimizes processes.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for internal tech teams and business partners on the implementation of feature changes to our lease administration software.
- Aids in the research and conclusions to be memorialized in technical accounting position papers related to real estate transactions and leases.

Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications
Required:- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance Business or other field directly related to accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to work well under pressure and strive for excellence while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Self-started with the ability to plan, organize, and establish priorities to meet goals and achieve results with a proven history of consistently meeting deadlines.

- Knowledge of reconciliation processes.

- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
