IT Technical Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
The Database Administrator is responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance and
performance of SQL servers, databases, and corporate applications. This role is a "hands-on", technical
position with direct system administration functions. This position is responsible for administration
and management of the database systems for custom applications, TIBCO Spotfire, Denodo Data
Virtualization, and Vertica. Incumbent will develop and exploit expertise in these platforms for the
benefit of a wide user base across the company
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.
Manage data environments across platforms including SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure SQL Database, Vertica, Denodo Data Virtualization and TIBCO Spotfire
Responsible for implementation, maintenance and technical support of purchased and custom developed software packages and integrations, which often requires working directly with vendors, 3rd party consultants and in-house developers
Monitor the health of various systems and data integrity, responding to alerts that may be warnings of pending critical issues
Conduct technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system
Provide recommendations and technical assistance in evaluating new systems
Contribute to capacity planning analysis and recommendations
Assist with the resolution of escalated incidents and participate in problem management activities
Advise developers on the most efficient database designs, complex query tuning, and schema refinement
Deploy internally developed applications and related maintenance releases
Collaborate with internal technical teams for backup, infrastructure and server support

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Skills and Experience
Extensive experience with query tuning, database design and troubleshooting
Proficiency with Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server
Experience with Azure SQL Database preferred
Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
Experience with time-series data (SCADA, IoT)
Experience with data virtualization
Critical thinker with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Work will be both in an office environment and outdoors. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting, standing and some heavy lifting. When the incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice.
