Job Summary: The Assistant Technical Director/Shop Foreman is a 30 hours per week, 12-month position and reports to the Technical Director. This position will have responsibilities associated with the smooth operation of all concerts, lectures, performances, and other programs in the Performing Arts Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative and production support to the Technical Director, and will assist in managing student assistants and staff.
- Coordinates and communicates closely with the Technical Director of the Center for the Arts about events/productions, student workers, and equipment/maintenance issues.
- Demonstrates responsibility for production support for touring performances, theater productions, and campus events in the auditorium including supervising and/or executing audio recording, video stream broadcasting, stage lighting support, live sound engineering, and other duties as needed.
- Schedules student stage crew assignments and serve intermittently as production supervisor for events that may take place on evenings and weekends.
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of rigging, audio, and stage lighting systems, as well as maintain the scene shop and tools.
- Supervise all construction builds and ordering of materials as well as general maintenance of equipment, supervision of space and meeting OSHA standards for workplace safety.
- The scope of the job will require working evenings and/or weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people including faculty, staff, and students.
- Knowledge of interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, work independently and as a part of a team; and meet deadlines while managing ongoing interruptions.
- Ability to pay close attention to details.
- Knowledge about the operation of sound/light equipment and scene construction.
Credentials and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in theater or a related field preferred
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience
