The Department of Theatre and Dance at Missouri State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor / Technical Director, to begin August 2025.
The successful applicant will serve as technical director for the department’s mainstage season, teach courses in stagecraft and other courses as applicable within the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. Maintains safety and functionality of equipment and advises on technical needs of the department. Works with production and artistic staff to plan, budget, and carry out production related goals, including drafting and budgeting builds as necessary. Serves as resource for students on technical matters. The successful candidate will embrace a philosophy of inclusion and the Missouri State University public affairs mission which includes cultural competency, ethical leadership, and community engagement.
Terminal degree required. At least two years of experience as technical director required, including experience in building, budgeting, and drafting for large-scale theatrical productions. Minimum of two years teaching experience in stagecraft-related courses required. Ability to work closely with others in a team required.
The Department of Theatre and Dance in the School of the Arts is a vibrant department with 18 full time faculty and 4 full time staff that maintains about 260 majors in seven undergraduate degrees programs, which are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Our undergraduate programs offer rigorous training in a liberal arts setting. The department produces several mainstage productions per season, and an additional four or five supplemental productions to ensure that students from all degree programs and areas of study have ample opportunities to develop their crafts. During the summer, the department produces Tent Theatre , a semi-professional theatre company in the new John Goodman Amphitheatre, named after notable alumnus John Goodman.
