Position Title: Graphic Designer

Reports to: Vice President for Communications and Strategic Initiatives

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Graphic Designer to join the Cottey Marketing team. This position will design a wide variety of things across digital and non-digital media. To be successful in this position, youll need to be a good communicator, a self-starter, organized, capable of delivering clear creative ideas, and show remarkable attention to detail.

Graphic Designer Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the Cottey marketing team, internal clients, and outside creative professionals on creative work.
  • Strategically translating client needs into creative design concepts that enhance the intended meaning of the work.
  • Designing visual concepts using design software.
  • Selecting colors, fonts, photographs, layouts and other design elements to communicate creative concepts while maintaining the Cottey brand.
  • Articulating and pitching creative ideas and concepts to marketing team and internal clients.
  • Designing graphics for including but not limited to social media, print, email, website, campus digital displays, and video graphics.
  • Help guide and maintain the Cottey College brand.

Graphic Designer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of print, digital and electronic media.
  • Exceptional creative layout, design and art skills; must have the ability to conceptualize and visualize.
  • Excellent command of English language, grammar, spelling and usage.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using a variety of writing styles to a range of audiences.
  • Flexibility and attention to details.
  • Desktop publishing tools and graphic design software.
  • Time-management skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Deadline-oriented.
  • Handles rejection.
  • Must have full-spectrum color vision correctable to 20/20 including being able to distinguish varying shades of gray and amounts of contrast.

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, art, or marketing.
  • Two (2) years of design experience.
  • Two (2) years of using Adobe design software including: InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of digital printing process and equipment preferred.

Must include a creative portfolio (can be a link in the Resume or Cover Letter). The creative portfolio must include at minimum 3 publication samples of design work.
