Job Summary:
The School Staff Nurse (RN) position is designed to provide direct medical care to the students at Cotting in a pediatric school setting. This person will have the experience and ability to promote the smooth and effective operation of the department on a day-to-day basis. At Cotting School you will work in a caring and collaborative environment.
Reporting to the Health Services lead, you will collaborate with a team of nurses and other medical staff including administrative staff, faculty and staff, students, and parents.
This position offers a unique experience to provide a variety of clinical skills not seen in a typical school setting.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work within the nursing scope of practice and deliver competent, evidence-based nursing care. Provides all necessary clinical treatment as ordered/indicated
Establish priorities of care effectively
Work collaboratively with parents and healthcare providers to develop individualized healthcare plans for students
Appropriately responds to emergencies
Administer medication safely and accurately
Educate school personnel regarding health-related issues involving students
Monitor the health status of students
Maintain logs and records
Document student encounters thoroughly and accurately
Provide personal care for students along with other members of the department
Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients (students) and families. Works collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators.
Provides after-school, evening, and overnight trip nursing coverage as scheduled and shared among the department
Any other duties relating to health programs at the School may be assigned.
Hours of Work:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm, and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday during the school year and Monday-Friday 8:00-2:15 during the Extended School Year (ESY). This is a 209-day position which includes the 5-week summer term.
