Position Summary

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program’s aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

 

The Analyst will work in the Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies (CGS), the part of the Studies department that focuses on the intersection of international economics and international relations. We expect that the analyst will report to and primarily collaborate with the senior fellow and director of international economics. The balance of their time will be spent working with other CGS fellows.

 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative, rigorous, quantitatively oriented mind to develop original ideas and to analyze important questions at the intersection of economic policy and foreign policy. Recent holders of the position have gone on to high-responsibility positions in the White House, in central banks, and in investment banking, as well as to top graduate school programs.

This position is based in CFR’s New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Co-write the Center’s highly regarded Geo-Graphics economics blog, including generating ideas for posts, collecting and analyzing data, and creating graphics
  • Conduct research, create data sets, and make graphics for visual interactives such as these: Global Monetary Policy, Global Imbalances, Global Trade, Global Growth, Sovereign Risk, and Central Bank Currency Swaps
  • Co-write articles
  • Research specific areas relating to economics and geopolitics, as requested by supervisors.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in economics, or related area, with coursework in statistics and high academic credentials
  • At least 2 years of work experience with macroeconomic analysis.

Related Skills & Other Requirements

  • High-level understanding of macroeconomics and, in particular, monetary policy
  • Extensive knowledge of macroeconomic and data sets
  • Fluency with Excel and R; familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal, Haver, and Tableau useful
  • Outstanding mathematics, writing, and research skills
  • Strong attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $65,000 – $80,000, depending on experience.
