Montessori Primary Guide

Countryside Montessori Day School
Kansas, MO Full Time
POSTED ON 1/25/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/25/2025

Countryside Montessori Day School is looking to hire a full-time teacher for our Primary program!

About Countryside:

Located on 80 acres of secluded farmland, about 10 minutes from KCI airport, is where you’ll find Countryside. A Montessori school that’s been serving the Kansas City Northland since 2007. In a converted dairy barn you will find four of our classrooms; the Toddler, Pre-Primary, and two Primary classrooms. A renovated house on the property is where our Elementary program is, and a renovated garage space is where our Infant classroom has recently relocated. On the back of the 80 acres is a creek and an outdoor building. This space is used weekly throughout the school year, and daily throughout the summer.

About Countrysides Primary Program:

CMDS Primary program hosts a traditional Montessori environment that’s curated to spark a love of learning, as well as independence, in our 3-6 year old students. The classroom is the students, so a rotating job chart and appropriate height furniture are incorporated to help teach care of their environment. The classroom is divided into the five main areas of Montessori (Practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language, and culture.) as well as art and music. Teachers work to develop students' social/emotional skills while ensuring students are where they need to be academically.

Position Expectations:

High energy, ability to maintain a level mindset amongst chaos, and the love of outdoors are all required for this position. Previous Montessori experience is preferred. Being able to work with a group who share different views then yours is a non-negotiable as we are a team who respects each others ideas, and understands we’re all just trying our hardest. Dress code for this position is casual and comfortable, but modesty is necessary. Confidence with using technology, more specifically an IPad, is important as we use Transparent Classroom to track our students progress. Reliability, flexibility, and good mobility are all important as this is a very high demanding position that requires its staffs consistency.

Love of the outdoors is necessary as it is a big part of our community and curriculum. The students are outside daily as long as the weather is safe, so ability to be in different climates for prolonged amounts of time is very important. Forest school can get extremely hot, and winter at the creek can get extremely cold.

Countryside Montessori Day School implements Conscious Discipline in all the classrooms, and ability to act in accordance with this is crucial. Research on this technique as well as Montessori prior to interviewing is recommended as it can be confusing to explain in a short amount of time. This is not a traditional classroom setting, so coming from a public school could be a shock to the system. We just ask that you are flexible, open to change, and respect the direction our lead elementary teacher will be giving you. Our ultimate goal is to help you get certified in Montessori, if the fit is right. We are looking for long time placement, and someone who is willing to go through more schooling down the line if not already Montessori certified.

Joining the Countryside team is joining a supportive, eclectic, positive community that’s goal is to help you thrive.

As many teachers know, we are not in this to get rich but to give children the childhood and education they deserve. The owners family has shared their property with the public for over a decade now because they are passionate about what the school does. Allowing children the opportunity to grow up outside while learning in a way that interest them is unheard of nowadays. This is why many of our teachers have brought, or are currently bringing, their kiddos to the school.

The starting pay, with experience, for this position is $17 an hour, but that is negotiable.
