POSITION TITLE: Kirksville Primary School Library Media Specialist
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
-Current Missouri DESE Library Media Specialist Certification
-Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
CONTRACT DAYS WORKED: 9 months
JOB GOAL:
-Plans, develops, and administers the library program to accomplish the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the district within established guidelines and procedures.
-Assists students and staff in full utilization of library services and resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Selects, acquires, catalogs, retrieves, integrates, circulates, preserves, and deselects information resources
- Collaborates effectively with classroom teachers and other educators
- Provides fiction and non-fiction literature appropriate to the students, grade levels served, and reflective os student interests
- Promotes and encourages reading for enjoyment, personal growth, and learning
- Advocates for dynamic school library programs and positive learning environments by collaborating and connecting with the school community
- Manages fiscal, physical, and personnel resources
- Seeks opportunities to grow professionally by taking advantage of information, events and services provided by local, state, and national organizations
- Serves on District and building committees as assigned
- Observes confidentiality regarding students and staff when communicating to others
- Observes all policies, rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies
- Participates in grade level, content area, building and district meetings
- Serve as an instructional resource consultant for teachers and students
- Manage student behavior in a constructive manner, following building processes and procedures
- Be knowledgeable about building curriculum
- Maintain current inventory of materials and equipment
- Provide a means for teachers to schedule use of the library and media equipment
- Organize and maintain library equipment, materials and supplies
- Supervise library staff
- Coordinates portable building tech; monitors check in and out of devices for teachers, work orders for chrome carts
- Works with members of the specials team
- Manages and provides support for online building resources and subscriptions
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The Distrct reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.
-Supervises classroom, students, aides, volunteers, and areas as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
-Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
-Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs. Of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. Of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. Of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual equipment.
-Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
-Mental demands can include but are not limited to: comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
