Competitive Gymnastics Team Lead Coach
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Gymnastics Team Coach is responsible for providing a safe, stimulating learning environment for competitive gymnasts while displaying a positive, dynamic attitude that encourages children’s development and self esteem.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Learn and teach the USAG Gymnastics routines through the use of suitable progressions and lesson plans, and in accordance with the YMCA’s Mission Statement, policies and procedures.
- Attend all scheduled practices regularly throughout the year. Coach a group of 6-10 gymnasts.
- Monitor gymnastics activities of all participants, intervening to correct technique where necessary.
- Observe and spot athletes as they perform on various apparatus.
- Attend coaches meetings (approximately 3-4x per year) and any required training.
- Attend meets wearing team attire and use proper etiquette at meets according to the gymnastic YMCA code of conduct.
- Develop and implement lesson plans for your group rotations.
- Complete student attendance, assessments, and timesheets on time.
- Document and administer discipline consistent with the Code of Conduct Policy.
- Communicate and interact effectively with parents and staff.
- Assist in Scholarship Fund Raising activities.
- Adhere to Safety regulations and report and safety issues to Gymnastics Director and/ or Risk Management.
- Other Duties as assigned or required by business necessity.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent, or currently enrolled. Previous competitive gymnast and/or 3-4 years of gymnastics instruction experience. CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice experience in all aspects of gymnastics;
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team;
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Position involves evening, weekend or extended hours and travel to offsite events;
- Employees over the age of 18 must complete a criminal background check;
- Current CPR, First Aid and Safe Sport Certification required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to plan, lead and demonstrate a range of gymnastic activities. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; lift, bend, carry, reach, stoop, push, pull. Noise level in the work environment will vary depending on the activity level in the gymnastics and ninja center. Visual and auditory ability and willingness to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency and follow the emergency action plan.
