Accomack County is currently recruiting for a full-time, experienced Applications/Systems Specialist III in the Department of Information Technology. The position is responsible for performing technical application support to assist departments and management with use of information technology applications/platforms. This is accomplished by performing upper level technical support for financial and HR applications, leave management, tax and collection applications, evidence collection based systems, work order management applications, public safety applications and permitting applications, among others. Work involves configuring current systems, evaluating new systems, and developing functional specifications/scope for technology projects. This position serves as project manager for the implementation of information technology projects, responsible for project schedules, budgets, meeting facilitation and developing documentation for users. Assists in the procurement of new systems, and implements vendor-supplied applications including the installation, customization, deployment, maintenance, training and on-going support. Assists with maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs and Microsoft 365. Performs network and system improvements, security patches, upgrades, and repairs. Maintain, and upgrade network devices including firewalls, routers and switches. This position reports to the Deputy Director for IT. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a fast-paced and innovative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain applications.
- Analyze user requirements and design solutions to meet those requirements.
- Troubleshoot application issues and provide technical support.
- Test applications for accuracy and reliability.
- Document application processes and procedures.
- Provide training and guidance to users on the use of applications.
- Research and recommend new technologies to improve applications.
Minimum qualifications are: Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS (Management Information Systems) or closely related field; supplemented by seven (7) or more years previous experience in large scale enterprise software implementations; and demonstrated experience in end user documentation and UAT test plans. Current Security certification or ability to complete certification process within 18 months of starting in the position. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, MIS (Management Information Systems); experience with government, education or medical entity; Project Management Certification and Cisco networking or Microsoft OS/SQL/365 certifications.
