What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Veterans Service Officer position at COUNTY OF BLOUNT?
Under the general direction of the Veterans Services Director, the Assistant Veterans Service Officer assists in administration of policies, practices, and procedures of the Veterans Office. The incumbent provides information and assists with preparation of forms for veterans on the process for applying for benefits. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Aid veterans and dependents regarding eligibility for veteran’s benefits and discuss available programs and benefits;
Assist and interfaces with the public and veterans concerning the process for receiving benefits and other various programs associated with veterans;
Maintain responsibilities in the Veteran’s office;
Aid with preparations of the monthly and annual operating budgets;
Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of VA forms, stationery, envelopes, etc within the guidelines of the Purchasing Department’s policies and procedures.;
Prepare or assist with a variety of veteran’s summaries and reports;
Maintain a comprehensive, modern knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to the Veterans Office;
Attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate;
Identify collaborative opportunities and serve on committees for community initiatives, as needed; and
Perform other relevant duties as required of a Assistant Veterans Service Officer.

Cooperate with fellow employees to contribute towards the goals, policies, and procedures used within each department of the Blount County Public Library; and
Adaptable and eager for opportunities to cross train.
Associate’s Degree;
US Veteran;
Two (2) years of experience working with veteran benefits & claims processes;
Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
Valid driver’s license.
