Job Summary
This position is responsible for verifying compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations to include occupational safety and health and environmental. This involves implementing and maintaining programs to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations and supporting the Environmental Management System program.
Responsibilities
- Oversee departmental safety and environmental training requirements
- Provide environmental, occupational health, and safety compliance and technical guidance and support services to departmental personnel
- Identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards, mitigate risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and prevent losses associated with County activities and operations
- Perform periodic EHS inspections, audits, and evaluations of work environments, workshops, and field jobsites
- Conduct EHS training to help prevent injury, protect the environment, manage EHS risks, and other duties as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, occupational health and safety, fire safety, engineering, or a related science
- Minimum of three years of experience working in the occupational safety and health and environmental compliance field
- Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, or capable of being trained and certified in these subjects
- Competent with Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- Strong written communication and oral presentation skills
- Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Materials Manager, Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), Environmental Safety & Health Trainer (CET), Associate in Risk Management Designation (ARM) certifications preferred
Additional Requirements
- Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
- Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
- Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required
