SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Performs general building and grounds maintenance and custodial duties as required. Responsible for the maintenance of the grounds such as mowing, trimming, and beautification of the grounds for Chisago County facilities. The primary focus of this position will be grounds maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be available to work up to 40 hours per week, weather permitting. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must have a good driving record and must be able to pass a criminal history check. Must be 18 years of age.
SALARY RANGE: $18.00 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

REPORTS TO: Building Maintenance Supervisor
JOB LOCATION: Chisago County Facilities
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Performs routine groundskeeping and building maintenance duties on all County buildings and facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Assistant
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cuts lawn using hand, power or riding mower; trims and edges around walks, flower beds, walls, etc.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs; prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
- Sprays lawns, trees and shrubs with fertilizers, weed killer and insecticides.
- Rakes leaves, cleans and sweeps walks. Disposes of leaves, litter and other debris.
- May perform minor repairs and maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.
- May perform routine laboring and maintenance duties when groundskeeping work has been completed or doing inclement weather conditions.
- Cleans drains, basins and other facilities.
- Adherence to all safety rules and regulations.

- Power washes various items such as buildings, tables, lawn equipment
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. A High School education and previous experience with lawn equipment is required. Must be over the age of 18.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability deal with simple problems and resolve problems independently.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
- Working knowledge of use of common hand and power tools
- Ability to perform physical maintenance work.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions.
- Knowledge of two cycle engines including mixing gas and oil.
- Ability to maneuver a truck with a trailer.
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision at times.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
All tools normally associated with building & grounds maintenance. Light and medium duty pickup trucks, phone, mobile and stationary radio, lawn mowers and various power tools (i.e. gas-powered weed whip, chain saw, edger, pruner, hedge trimmer, backpack blower)

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. The position requires independent actions at a variety of County facilities.
This position requires frequent walking/standing/sitting and occasional climbing/ kneeling/ crawling/reaching.
This position requires frequent lifting of 25 to 50 pounds, and includes snow shoveling, lawn mowing and/or other activities normally associated with landscape maintenance.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
This position requires the use of hands and arms to handle, feel objects, operate equipment or controls, and to reach.
This position requires frequent ordinary speaking/hearing and telephone/radio communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or air borne particles, and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to loud and noisy.
