As an Information Systems Technician for Colusa County, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our county's computer systems are running smoothly. This position involves providing technical support for county departments, troubleshooting system issues, and performing regular maintenance on hardware and software. You’ll be the go-to person for resolving tech problems and ensuring our systems stay up-to-date and secure.

You’ll need a strong technical background, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in computer hardware, software, and network troubleshooting, along with an understanding of GIS software, would be a plus!

Supervision & Examples of Duties

Receives direction from the Information Technology Director, department management and/or the Department Information Systems Coordinator dependent on the assignment.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Equivalent to one year of experience analyzing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer hardware, software and network devices, which includes working with various operating structures and database structures. (Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis).

For Geographic Information System (GIS) option: Experience as listed.

  • Developed and produced a wide range of maps, reports, and graphic products using GIS, CAD, and other specialized software, adhering to established technical guidelines for use across County web pages and for distribution to user departments.
  • Converted AutoCAD files and various other data formats into GIS-compatible layers and projects, ensuring accuracy and compatibility across systems.
  • Regularly updated and maintained the County's GIS databases, following departmental policies and procedures, to ensure data accuracy and completeness. Assisted in data cleanup efforts and made necessary corrections in response to changes and integration of new datasets.
  • Updated digital data layers and created corresponding, visually accurate maps to support ongoing county projects and initiatives.
  • Applied principles of surveying, mapping, global positioning systems (GPS), aerial photography, and satellite imagery to enhance GIS projects.
  • Proficiently utilized GIS application software, including ESRI’s ArcGIS and ArcView, to produce, analyze, and manage geographic data for a wide range of applications.
Training:
Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of an approved certificate program in computer science, information systems technology, management information systems or a related field.

License or Certificate
Requires possession of a valid California Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
