What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Worker IV - Children Services position at County of Dare?
Performs advanced skilled work overseeing staff, training and mentoring staff, reviewing case files, consulting on more complex cases, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Senior Social Worker Supervisor. Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate social workers (on-call only). Position requires work outside of normal business hours, including, on a rotating basis, weekend and holiday on-call coverage.
- Meets, in person, with children and families to continually assess needs and risk of harm.
- Identifies needs, makes appropriate referrals, ensures delivery of medical, psychological, and educational care of children, placement families and biological families with the goal of establishing permanency for children.
- Gathers and maintains accurate information and makes critical observations in emotionally charged and hostile environments; maintains case files and prepares forms in accordance with federal and state mandates.
- Prepares court reports and attorney packets; testifies in court hearings.
- Works with families to create treatment plans; encourages families to work towards goals set out in these plans.
- Screens reports of child abuse, neglect, and dependency, assign to workers while serving as on-call supervisor and occasional daytime supervisor.
- Covers intake of community reports of child abuse, neglect, and dependency.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems.
- Thorough knowledge of social institutions and the methods of the helping process.
- Thorough knowledge of individual and groups behavior.
- Ability to identify social problems and needs to assess the ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving.
- Ability to plan and organize work and to understand and interpret laws, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies and the general public.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
- Considerable experience in social work or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver’s license.
