Position Title: Laundry Technician

Reporting Structure: Laundry Supervisor

Rate of Pay: $18

Site Location: George W. Hill Correctional Facility

Summary:

The laundry technician will work within the guidelines of established security roles, regulations, and operational procedures. The incumbent manages and monitors all work done in the facility laundry. This position includes inventory and appropriate storage of supplies, submitting timely recommendations for allocations of required supplies and equipment and monitoring to assure that supplies, equipment, and monitoring to assure that supplies/equipment are used in a proper and safe manner. Work hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 1:00pm-9:00pm.

Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only):

· Adheres to all policies and procedures of the county and specific facility regulations including posted special orders and instructions.

· Conduct periodic inventory of equipment (per established schedule) and supplies (at least once per week). Initiate work orders or purchase requisitions for any needed repair or additional supplies.

· Conduct inspections of the equipment (at least once per workday) to ascertain that it is in proper operational condition.

· Assure that the laundry equipment is being properly used including the sorting of clothing and application of wash/dry cycles (e.g., pre-soak, rinse).

· Routinely inspect inmate clothing, laundry bags, towels, and linens, etc. to ascertain if items require repair or disposal. Prepare recommendations for replacement of disposed items so that stock remains at a level consistent to meet the needs of the facility.

· Train incarcerated persons in proper laundry procedures and monitor their work activity to assure that it is being done correctly. Training will include pre-assignment training and on-going on-site training/supervision.

· Monitor to assure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times within areas of responsibility. Provide continued training to the incarcerated persons assigned to the laundry in safety awareness and monitor to assure the training is appropriately applied.

· Maintain strict control of hazardous tools and materials, as well as locks, keys, and other items, which would be used for illicit purposes.

· Prepare reports connected with position responsibilities.

· Be alert to methods for improving procedures and enhancing security within the facility and submit written recommendations of same to supervisors.

· Provide appropriate supervision and constructive counseling for laundry workers. , not allowing personal bias to influence decisions.

· Be able to demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, a positive attitude, and have the ability to make decisions on the spot within current policy and procedural guidelines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

· A high school diploma or equivalent.

· Must posses a current and valid driver’s license

· General awareness of the appropriate American Correctional Association standards, Title 37 standards, security procedures, sanitation equipment and methods, basic first aid and CPR, security, safety, and emergency procedures, and the facility’s mission, goals, and objectives.

· Must have completed an approved correctional officer training course.

· Must have good vision

· Must be able to hear conversations within noisy groups.

· Capable of working under stressful conditions, in high and low temperatures, and around dust, odors, and noise.

Work Environment:

Standard jail facility and office environment.Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
