Corrections Officer
Hancock County Government is seeking full-time and part-time Corrections Officer (s) to fill vacancy (ies) in the Hancock County Jail.
The Hancock County Jail is seeking individuals to be part of a dynamic team which completes the receiving and processing of all new inmates; maintains records; makes periodic check on living quarters; conducts head counts at all meals and lockup; operates and inspects security devices; supervises inmate visits; enforce inmate rules and regulations and other duties as assigned.
This is an investigative and protective services work whether full time or part time or in reserve capacity, involving custody, security, discipline, and rehabilitation of persons committed to a correctional facility.
Minimum qualifications:
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Able to be successfully trained and certified as a Corrections Officer by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
- Successfully pass a full personal, criminal, and motor vehicle background check
- Successfully complete physical assessment based on the Departmental Functional Job Description
- High School or Equivalent
- Driver’s License
Preferred skills include ability to apply modern correctional principles and practices; knowledge of applicable laws; ordinances, rules and regulations; ability to work in a team; ability to enforce the rules and policies with firmness, tact, and impartiality, and to deal courtesy with the public.
The starting rate of pay for the Correction Officer position is $ 23.71 and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Hancock County background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
