Essential Duties
This MultiSystemic Therapy (MST) clinician position provides assessments and treatment services to youth aged 4 to 18 years who are experiencing symptoms related to mental health and substance use disorders. This position has frequent involvement with the Juvenile Court Services Unit, Social Services, Schools, and other youth serving agencies.
Therapists work individually with the family, while having the support of their team. Therapist will work within the natural ecology of the youth, conduct assessments, including the review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants and stakeholders, and identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses using within the MST evidence based model.
While there is extensive training in the evidence-based model, considerable knowledge of principles of community mental health and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or substance abuse; considerable knowledge and understanding trauma-informed treatment, fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgement strongly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR, a bachelor's degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
Strong preference for licensure by the Virginia Board of Health Professionals (LCSW or LPC) or qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation for the appropriate discipline.
TB Screening and Child Protective Services Record Check required, upon hire. A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Expected salary at the low to mid-range of the listed salary scale.
