General Statement of Duties

Provides a variety of treatment and / or prevention services to clients with a wide range of psychiatric, emotional, relational, substance abuse or social problems in Emergency Services ; may provide consultation and education services to specific populations; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
The primary function of this position is to provide intensive and rapid assessment services and interventions to persons in a mental health or substance abuse emergency in the County. Provide pre-screening evaluations as per State Code. Possess the ability to assess severe mental health and substance abuse problems and have a thorough understanding of legal and local TDO procedures and practices. Possess a knowledge of a wide range of psychiatric profiles and knowledge of interventions and psychotherapy. Schedule includes evenings, nights, and weekends.
Considerable knowledge of principles of community mental health and / or intellectual disabilities and / or substance abuse; considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques / modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and / or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgment.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR , a bachelor's degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR , any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Information
A professional license or license eligible is strongly preferred. Pre-Screening certification preferred. Must be available to work evenings, nights, and weekends. Valid Virginia driver's license, TB Screening, and Child Protective Services Record Check required, upon hire.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Must hold or be qualified to work toward licensure or accreditation for the appropriate discipline. Reimbursement for license and certifications.

Expected salary commensurate with experience. Several position will be filled from this posting.
