General Statement of Duties
Assists the Director by assuming responsibility for administrative work and by coordinating the County recreation program; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Assists the Director by performing advanced professional and administrative work requiring leadership, management, supervisory, and analytical skills and knowledge of operating parks, facilities, recreation programs, and open spaces.
Extensive knowledge of public recreation and park administration and operations and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. The employee functions with some latitude under the direction of the Director of Recreation and Parks within the framework of broad policies established by the Board of Supervisors.
- Oversees the operations of assign divisions within the department that may include, ballfields turf and general grounds, trades and sports, recreation programs, special events, facility operations, and history and natural resources.
- Assists the Director in budget analysis and supervises the development of the budget in their assigned sections.
- Develops and adjusts internal policies and procedures that provide efficient customer service; ensures that all County and departmental policies and procedures are implemented consistently within assigned divisions of the department; and works collaboratively with County staff, partner organizations and residents.
- Conducts and supervises a wide variety of special projects in the department including policy analysis and development, program and facility development, and customer service enhancement.
- Participate in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Prepares reports, presentations, and provides recommendations to the Director, Deputy County Manager, County Manager, and/or Board of Supervisors.
- Confers with the Director on personnel and other management practices and problems.
- Respond to resident requests for information and resolve the most difficult and sensitive resident inquiries and complaints.
- Attends public meetings as authorized by the Director.
- Acts for the Director in Director's absence.
- Extensive knowledge of all phases of park operations, recreation administration; considerable knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct comprehensive programs in parks and recreation; ability to cooperate with and interpret recreation philosophies to County authorities, public and private groups, agencies and the general public; ability to develop and maintain high morale and enthusiasm; good judgment.
- Preferred CPRE or CPRP
- Performs related work as assigned.
