Serves as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator; provides outreach and support to consumers; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
- Provide peer support services to individuals in Henrico County who experience a substance-related overdose.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergency overdose scenes in a timely manner.
- Provide peer support in the most immediate timeframe possible after being notified of an overdose that occurred outside of normal working hours.
- Work closely with the Division of Fire and other Henrico County agencies to identify individuals who may be contacted and linked to support services in the community.
- Work closely with the recovery community to ensure connection to resources and related follow up for identified persons in need.
- Create and maintain database of current recovery resources in the community to share with residents, families, etc.
- Weekly outreach in the community, to provide education and Narcan to hotels/motels, and to support individuals with SUD. Provide Narcan, Revive training, test strips, peer bracelets, and resources.
- Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, to increase support and resources for clients.
- Work directly with Case Manager on various long-term projects, to improve SUD outcomes in the community.
- Share your recovery story with clients, staff, and the community, as needed, to serve as inspiration and hope. Provide Revive training, as needed.
- Provide information and referrals to individuals needing language or disability assistance.
- Establish and maintain appropriate documentation for case management and use of data to establish trends within the community, while ensuring privacy laws are followed.
- Record monthly statistics and report quarterly.
- Meet regularly with designated supervisor to review progress and ongoing coordination of services for the program and participants.
- Offer substance use disorder education as needed and requested by Henrico County.
- Continued education and/or trainings to further CPRS knowledge and credentials.
- Support CARE team members, as needed. Co-visits with CARE, CIT, MRT, to best support resident needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school with coursework or degree in a relevant field and previous relevant work experience is preferred; OR, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record to perform assigned duties at various locations Countywide.
May be required to work a flexible or on-call schedule.
Requires maintaining current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist by Virginia Certification Boad (VCB).
May require Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) Facilitator certification and Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) Facilitator certification.
