What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant District Attorney position at County of Lycoming?
DESCRIPTION
Employee performs legal functions for the County through the office of the District Attorney, using legal reference materials and law books. Work involves conducting prosecution in court proceedings on behalf of the County Government, gathering and analyzing evidence in case, and reviewing pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to the case. Employee presents evidence against accused in court of law and presents evidence before a judge. Instruction is received from the District Attorney.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Researches legal questions and delivers opinions.
- Prepares legal briefs.
- Prepares and tries criminal cases.
- Handles juvenile hearings.
- Presents arguments before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
- Answers inquiries from the public and policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None
WORKING CONDITIONS
Slight potential for danger due to clientele.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening, as required by Lycoming County.
- Graduate of a recognized college or university and from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law before the Courts of the Commonwealthof Pennsylvania.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Private telephone number at residence.
