The Deputy Director of Elections performs responsible administrative work registering voters, maintaining accurate and complete voter database records, candidates' filing records, and supporting the elections process for the County and the Board of Elections.This position is responsible for registering voters and maintaining the accuracy of the voter registration database. Work includes data entry of new voter registration applications, maintaining existing voter cards, entering changes in voter registration such as changes of addresses and deceased voters. Work also includes issuing absentee ballots, assisting with candidate filings, training precinct officials, and preparing for and conducting regular and special elections. The employee also takes, minutes of the Board of Election. Some independent judgment, initiative, tact and courtesy are required in the performance of elections office duties and in dealing with the general public. Work also requires the ability to work effectively under strict time constraints during the conduct of elections. Work is performed in accordance with State election laws, and policies and procedures established by the County Board of Elections. The position is supervised by the Elections Director and is evaluated through observation, efficiency and effectiveness of office and elections operations and feedback from the public.

Essential Duties and Tasks: *Registers voters; verifies DMV and Social Services voter registration records; notifies rejected voter applicants and contacts applicants for additional information when needed; receives applications for registration and ascertains that applicants are eligible to register in the County; prepares and mails voter registration cards.*Maintains voter registration database; performs data entry of new and existing voter registrations in the SIEMS database; audits voter records and removes voters who are felons, deceased, duplicates or who have relocated; updates records based on notifications from other counties and states; performs back-up of files; maintains Social Services declination files.*Assists with or creates voter reports from database for candidates, political parties, media and others upon request.*Provides customer assistance to voters and the general public by telephone and in person; answers inquiries regarding registration, elections process, voting precincts, etc.*Assists with or receives candidates' notices of candidacy and assists candidates with completing required filing forms; receives filing fees; provides candidates with campaign reporting materials; notarizes forms and answers questions; explains reporting requirements.*Assists Director to prepare and submit required and requested reports regarding election activities; composes correspondence and newspaper articles.*Attends meetings of the Board of Elections and takes minutes of meetings.*Assists with preparation and conduct for each election; assists with preparing materials and testing voting equipment; assists with voter education; participates in training and supervision of part-time staff and precinct officials; receives requests for absentee ballots; mails absentee ballots; assist in maintain/update precinct management guides; assists in maintain/update registration drive packets; prepares individual precinct boxes with materials needed for elections including registration supplies, voter registration lists, etc.; and assists with delivery of precinct materials and voting equipment; conducts one-stop voting; roves during elections assisting precinct personnel and repairing or replacing voting machines; and assists with verifying election numbers.
