A Deputy Sheriff's duties are to include but not limited to conducting preliminary criminal investigation, service of criminal and civil process, patrolling assigned areas, correction of public safety hazards, restoring order, maintaining peace at public gatherings, participating in search warrants and raids, collecting and preserve physical evidence, preparing reports, testifying in court; pursuing and apprehending suspects, presenting case evidence in court, transporting mental subjects to mental hospitals, directing traffic for funeral processions. Must be willing to work days/nights/weekends on rotational basis. Perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Typical Tasks: Respond to calls for service, i.e. 911 callsCollect information for reports and write and enter said reports into systemCollect evidence at crime sceneInterview victims and witnessService processes of the Office, i.e. warrants, subpoenas, civil documents, etc. Effect an arrest or issue a citation for clear cut and substantial violations of general statutes or local ordinances.Handles special projects concerning law enforcement related events and gatherings.Serves as incident commander at the scene of major incidents until supervisors arrive at sceneParticipates in investigations as needed or directed.Collect items of evidence.Interview and Interrogation of persons suspected of committing crimes for lower level violations of law.Prepare and submit prosecution summaries.Conduct surveillance as needed.Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of modern police methods and procedures; police investigative techniques; geography of the county; the rules, regulations and procedures of the Sheriff’s Office; ability to deal tactfully with other employees and the public; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to type and manage Word and RMS, ability to organize work and carryout special projects.
