What are the responsibilities and job description for the SOLICITOR'S OFFICE INVESTIGATOR position at County of Orangeburg?
The employee will be an investigator working under the supervision and pleasure of the First Judicial Circuit Solicitor. The purpose of this job is to aid solicitors in preparing and prosecuting criminal cases in the court in which the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office represents the State of South Carolina on behalf of citizens of the County of Orangeburg. The majority of the employee’s time and duties will aid in the adjudication of General Sessions’ cases of incarcerated individuals in the Orangeburg County Detention Center; and perform related work as assigned. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisory staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by the completion of required law enforcement coursework.
Five (5) years of law enforcement experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess a valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Possess and maintain a current S.C. Criminal Justice Academy Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification in good standing.
Cell phone mapping analysis experience preferred.
Cellebrite certifications are preferred.

- Assists solicitors in prosecuting criminal cases of a basic to highly complex nature.
- Works with prosecutors, law enforcement, witnesses, and victims to prepare cases for trial.
- Locates and interviews victims and witnesses.
- Composes complete and accurate reports for investigative purposes.
- Obtains police reports, background checks, mug shots, fingerprints, and bookings from other agencies.
- Reviews criminal histories and backgrounds to determine security issues of witnesses and victims.
- Transports evidence to and from agencies for analysis and trail preparation.
- Stores evidence in a manner that preserves the chain of custody.
- Reviews and studies evidence with solicitor.
- Prepares exhibits and provides technical assistance in court.
- Serves subpoenas to witnesses.
- Collects evidence for trial cases.
- Subpoenas and interviews witnesses, property owners and building occupants to obtain information and sworn testimonies.
- Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
