The Rockland County Office of the County Attorney is seeking candidates for a full-time, Paralegal Specialist II (Municipal Law) position. The candidate will be responsible for legal work of a difficult nature involving independent responsibility for a wide variety of legal issues; e.g., legal research and writing, preparing correspondence, contracts, agreements, deeds, affidavits, resolutions, land acquisition documents, bid reviews, and notices; drafting legal documents; and reviewing documents for completeness, legal sufficiency and accuracy. The work of this position is non-routine and complex in nature and requires a high degree of independence. The work is performed under the general supervision of one or more attorneys.
The position reports directly to the Confidential Assistant to County Attorney.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as a Paralegal Specialist in any law office; or
- Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and seven (7) years of paid work experience involving municipal law, at least five (5) years of which involved work of a responsible and independent nature and which also included para-legal tasks; or
- Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and nine (9) years of paid work experience in any law office, at least five (5) years of which involved work of a responsible and independent nature which also included para-legal tasks as a substantial part of such work; or
- Graduation from law school; or
- Completion of an approved course of study for paralegal specialists and two (2) years of post-education experience as a Paralegal Specialist; or
- Any equivalent combination of the above training and experience.
Other Requirements and Information:
This is a competitive/provisional position in Civil Service and reachability on an eligibility list after civil service examination is a requirement for permanent appointment.
Salary and Benefits:
- $37.36 hourly with annual increases as authorized by the CSEA collective bargaining agreement
