PEST MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN I

Pest Management Technicians are responsible for understanding and using integrated pest management techniques to manage or eradicate a wide variety of pests infesting county agricultural areas, right-of-ways, airports, open space lands, and other county facilities such as office buildings, hospitals, institutions and detention facilities. Pest Management Technicians use a variety of herbicides, insecticides, and rodenticides routinely to address general pest issues, as well as responding to all bee complaints on County property.
Hiring Timeline & Dates
- Job Offer and Background Process begins in June 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications
- An associate's degree in biological or environmental health sciences from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, or equivalent academic course work; OR,
- A high school diploma or equivalent, AND, one (1) year of full-time, paid experience in controlling insects, nematodes, rodents, weeds and/or plant diseases.

Condition of Employment
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application.
