The County of San Diego Sheriff's Office is seeking a Telecommunications Technician II for the Sheriff's Wireless Services Division. Telecommunication Technicians service the County's large public safety land mobile radio systems and microwave backhaul networks.
About the Position:
Telecommunications Technician II install, maintain, diagnose, and service a variety of telecommunications systems and equipment such as fixed and mobile transmitters and receivers, multicouplers and combiners, digital microwave radio systems, and various types of digital cross connect equipment including channel banks and digital multiplexers. The Telecommunications Technician II also work on IP-based telecommunications systems comprised networking elements such as servers, switches, routers, dispatch center consoles, mobile data systems, as well as Network Monitoring Systems.

Education and Experience:
Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Qualifying education and experience:
- Three (3) years of experience in maintaining, repairing, modifying or testing electronic telecommunications equipment, two (2) years of which must have been with VHF, UHF, SHF (microwave) two-way radio telecommunications equipment, AND an additional year of telecommunications experience, OR
- An Associate of Arts degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field, OR
- Military certification equivalent to an AA degree or higher in telecommunications, electronics or a related field; OR,
- Two (2) years of experience as a Telecommunications Technician I with the County of San Diego, or an equivalent combination of the above.
