The Department of Social Services has Administrative Assistant III vacancies in the Participant Services Division, Children's Services Division, and Team Services unit.
Participant Services Division administers eligibility programs such as CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, Foster Care, and General Assistance. The Administrative Assistants working in our clerical units are integral parts of our division, as they are the first persons our participants interact with when they first apply.
Children's Services Division is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and youth of our community who face risks of abuse, neglect, or exploitation through a range of programs and services. The Administrative Assistants in the Children’s Services division support social workers and other Department staff in ensuring children, teens, and families in the community receive needed referrals and services to support safety, permanency and wellbeing.
Team Services is part of the Administrative Services Division and is responsible for transporting inter-office mail, stock supplies and case files between various office locations. They are also responsible for producing large volumes of printed packets and forms for front line staff. The Administrative Assistants in the Team Services unit work to provide hands on support for all units within the department and require frequent use of physical activity which include lifting and carrying items.Preferred Qualifications:

A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
All levels: Graduation from High School or possession of a G.E.D AND
Administrative Assistant I: Either A: 6 months of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant Aide. Or B: One year of general clerical experience including word-processing/computer experience.
Administrative Assistant II: Either A: One year of experience performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant I. Or B: Two years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.
Administrative Assistant III: Either A: One year of experience performing duties comparable to an Administrative Assistant II. Or B: Three years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.
Possession of either a Certificate of Proficiency in secretarial, clerical, or library studies or possession of a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution will substitute for up to one year of the general clerical experience.Applications, including answers to supplemental questions, must be submitted online.
