The County of Volusia is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Resource Stewardship Division. This position is responsible for limited semi-skilled manual labor in the performance of manual laboring tasks in a wide variety of construction and maintenance work.This position will be filled at the base pay rate of $15.68 hourly.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Operates equipment (e.g. chainsaws, brush cutters, etc.) in ditch maintenace, right-of-way clearing and grounds keeping. Operates commercial mowers and landscape equipment (e.g. blowers, sweepers, edgers, pressure washers, etc.).Operates vehicle mounted and portable spray equipment.Assists with application, storage, mixing and loading of herbicides and insecticides. Sprays herbicides for control of aquatic and ditch bank weeds.Assists in performing field maintenance and service work on equipment operated.Assists in performing shop maintenance in a laboring capacity under supervision when equipment is in shop for repairs.Clears brush from roadside and ditches. Sweeps/blows sidewalks and parking lot, picks up trash all around all buildings. Removes refuse and paper from grounds. Cuts, trims, waters, and fertilizes lawn and bushes.Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks and vans.Moves and aids in moving furniture, equipment and/or large and bulky objects.Performs scheduled housekeeping duties throughout the facility and area grounds.Performs minor repairs under close supervision, such as, changing lights and unclogging toilets. Washes and cleans vehicles and equipment as required.Keeps restrooms and janitor closets supplied with necessary paper products, and cleaning supplies. Cleans and sanitizes facility restroom, breakrooms, demo kitchen, and shower areas. Picks up and delivers parts and supplies as directed.May perform general painting applications of interior and exterior areas of buildings, preparation and repair of surfaces to be painted. May perform set up in auditorium, conference rooms, and rental facilities for meetings, trainings, or rental events. Sets up tables, chairs, pipes and drapes, electrical poles and other equipment as needed. Unlocks gates and opens buildings at the start and end of each shift. Raises/lowers flags.Cleans glass and area around all entryways. Vacuum lobby, offices, and all hallways.Take out trash on a daily basis and after events. Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.Responds to emergency situations.Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform routine unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work.Ability to read and write English.Ability to follow oral instructions.Knowledge of basic tools used in maintenance and construction work.Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to laboring work.Ability to safely operate chainsaws, brush cutters, blowers, sweepers, commercial mowers and other assigned equipment without assistance. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.Ability to perform work without direct supervision.Ability to fill out daily work sheets.Ability to safely operate pick-up truck, small trailer and safely secure loads.Ability to safely tow and back a trailer.ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Able to see, talk, and hear. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and machines. Peripheral vision.
