WCPL is hiring a part-time (20 hours per week) Youth Services Librarian for the Athens Drive Community Library to focus on School-aged children and Teens. You will work in the library with a team of Librarians and Library Assistants dedicated to offering quality service and dynamic programming to the community. Beyond developing and delivering programs, Librarians provide reference, readers' advisory, and circulation assistance. Librarians are offered the opportunity to collaborate with managers and peers; and participate in system initiatives, though on a more limited basis due to the part-time schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, promote and present programs for school-aged children and teens and facilitate the Teen Leadership Corps
- Work directly with the public on a service desk providing reference and readers' advisory
- Take a lead with Library Assistants assigned to assist in the delivery of programs
- Serve as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Library Manager
The weekly schedule for this position is:
Two
evenings per week after 2:40pm until 9:10pm
Fridays 2:40pm-6:10pm
One weekend a month, Saturday 8:40am-6:10pm and Sunday 12:40pm-5:10pm
Athens Drive Community Library is centrally located within Athens Drive High
School, 1420 Athens Dr., Raleigh, NC 27606. The library operates on a limited
schedule when school is closed for the day, Mon-Thu 4:00-9:00pm, Fri
4:00-6:00pm, Sat 9:00am-6:00pm and Sun 1:00-5:00pm. During summer, library hours expand
to match other libraries in the system.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
- No specific experience required
- Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Coursework in youth services
- One year of professional public library experience working with children
