Job Summary
The Assistant position is an Attorney position. This position must be familiar the Pennsylvania Laws and Procedures. Must be able to interview clients, do extensive legal research. As well as represent clients/patients.

Responsibilities
The person in this position is responsible for handling all appeals, either in cases handled by the Public Defender's Office as well as from private attorneys. This includes appeals to the Pennsylvania Superior Court, Supreme Court as well as the Commonwealth Court. In addition, the appellate assistant Public Defender will be responsible for handling all PCRAs to which the office is appointed.
Essential Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a law degree and be licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and be in good standing.
- Must be familiar with criminal law and procedures, as well as the Rules of Evidence, the Sentencing Guidelines, and other statutes relevant to the representation of defendants in criminal and indirect criminal contempt cases.
- Must have excellent legal research skills.
- Must have excellent writing skills.
- Must be very familiar with the Rules of Appellate Procedure.
- Must have good organizational skills and be able to manage deadlines.
- Must be able to communicate well with indigent clients, both in the office as well as in prison.
- Must have excellent oral argument skills.
