What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Deputy Counsel (Problem Solving Courts) position at Court Administration, Office of?
The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description This position is assigned to OCA Counsel’s Office, but the selected candidate will primarily provide legal support to the Hon. Debra J. Young, Acting Supreme Court Justice, Statewide Coordinating Judge for Problem-Solving Courts (“Statewide Coordinating Judge”), with chambers in Rensselaer County. Duties will include but are not limited to: • Researching and analyzing legal issues and questions;• Reviewing and researching legislative proposals and preparing memorandums regarding same;• Keeping apprised of best practice policies and procedures regarding problem solving courts and drafting memorandums for distribution to judges and court staff;• Acting as a liaison with stakeholders on problem-solving court issues;• Assisting the Statewide Coordinating Judge with identifying, expanding and enhancing problem-solving courts and court operations;• Assisting the Statewide Coordinating Judge in reviewing and preparing legislative testimony and presentations;• Assisting with identifying areas of statewide training and preparing and/or presenting at such trainings;• Accompanying the Statewide Coordinating Judge on problem-solving court site visits.Assistant Deputy Counsel specialize in particular substantive areas of the law whichrelate to the development and implementation of court policies and the administration of the Unified Court System. Assistant Deputy Counsel analyze complex legal issues and questions presented by proposed administrative rules, legislation, and litigation, advise judges and non-judicial personnel on the implications of procedures and programs, and perform other related duties.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Admission to the New York State Bar; and five years of legal experience. Candidates with problem-solving court experience are encouraged to apply.
