Role Summary:
The Finance Director is a key member of the staff at Couts United Methodist Church, responsible for managing and overseeing the financial health of the church and Couts Christian Academy (CCA). This role includes budgeting, payroll, financial reporting, and record-keeping to ensure transparency and compliance. The Finance Director plays a vital role in supporting the church's mission by ensuring sound financial practices and clear reporting.
Essential Functions:
- Budget Management: Assist in developing, managing, and overseeing the church’s and CCA’s annual budgets.
- Payroll: Process and manage payroll, including payroll tax reporting, W2s, and 1099s
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee all accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment of bills and accurate record-keeping of income.
- Giving Records: Record and maintain accurate donor and giving records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with church policies.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial reports for the Finance Committee and CCA Board, quarterly giving statements for donors, annual financial reports, end of year reporting for the United Methodist Church, and other reports as requested.
- Annual Audit: Assist by maintaining clear records, providing needed records to auditors and supporting auditors on site.
- Software Utilization: Maintain financial records using Church Windows and Breeze software. Ensure data is backed up, up-to-date, and easily accessible for auditing and reporting purposes.
- Compliance: Ensure all financial practices comply with the church’s policies and procedures, the United Methodist Book of Discipline, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
- Financial Records Management: Collect, maintain and store all financial records as required by federal, state and local requirements and by the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church.
- Additional Duties: Provide financial insights and recommendations to church leadership. HR experience is a bonus and may include managing employee benefits or other HR-related financial responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business (preferred).
- Minimum two years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Experience with church-specific financial software such as Church Windows and Breeze is preferred but training available.
- Knowledge and Understanding of the United Methodist Church is helpful
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Other Responsibilities:
- Attend Finance Committee meetings and provide needed information.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor, Finance Committee Chair, Finance Committee, and CCA Board to provide financial updates and recommendations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or Finance Committee.
- Knowledge of various computer tools: Microsoft Office, banking software, ability to learn custom software
