POSITION SUMMARY:
CovationBio has an opportunity at our Newark Technical Center for a Senior Research Associate on our furanics technology platform team. This technology platform is focused on commercializing our proprietary technology to convert renewable feedstocks (biomass) to chemicals for creating sustainable, bio-based materials. In this role you would work alongside a team of lab researchers, taking guidance from senior engineers and project leaders, to build lab processes, execute experimental plans, troubleshoot problems, collect and process data, and perform analytical workups. The types of chemistry and conditions we use will require the use of high pressure, high temperature and/or hazardous materials. As such, the role will also involve applying process safety management to the design, build and operation to ensure safe operation.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently build, run, and troubleshoot lab scale chemical engineering processes in a safe and reliable manner
- Perform analytical techniques on lab samples/develop analytical methods
- Document experimental work within electronic lab notebook system, and contribute to report writing and technology team presentations
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of associates degree in chemistry/engineering/technology related field or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated expertise in assembling and safely operating lab equipment (preferably chemical engineering processes)
- Demonstrated functionality in software to store and collect data (e.g., MS Excel)
Desired Characteristics:
- Capability to setup and run online and off-line analytical techniques (e.g., GC, LC).
- Experience with running catalytic processes
- Experience with high hazard processes (high pressure/temperature, hazardous materials handling)
- Experience with lab scale automation and process control, programming, and data logging
- Experience with Process Hazards Analysis
TRAVEL:
- The position is in the Newark, DE Lab. Some travel may be required when working with third parties or for personal development opportunities (e.g. training)
